Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One for the nerds, perhaps   April 22, 2008
I'm only a beginner, but I found this book extremely useful, being told why things worked - or didn't - rather than just being told what to do or not. As well as an overview of the mechanics of body and equipment, the book gives some really good practical advice I haven't seen elsewhere - always explaining exactly why, of course. If you too are the kind of person who ALWAYS reads the manual, this is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Looking beneath   January 12, 2008

The other two reviewers have indicated that this is not for the beginner. True you could not teach yourself to shoot by reading it; but it is never too soon to begin to understand what is going on "underneath" when you are drawing a bow and I think it would be an inavaluable addition to any thinking archer's library.

4 out of 5 stars Anatomically complicated ,but essential to the archer ,   April 15, 2000

Ray Afford has written a very comprehensive work , it certainly improved my archery ,once I had found out ,that I didnt need to be a surgeon to use the information in the book .A must for the improving archer ,but not a beginners book Roxborough@bosinternet.com

4 out of 5 stars great for veterns, chaos for the beginner   December 1, 1997

This book is the most comprehensive scientific study of archery that I have ever had the pleasure to read. It addresses both the physiology of shooting and the math and physics of how a bow works. If your are just getting started in archery, however, you are better of taking in some more basic material before you tackle this bible of archery jargon.
